Management Team

Jeff McKinlay - Operations Manager

Jeff started in the industry in 1995. In 1999, he joined Bonnetts Energy and has since taken on various roles and responsibilities. Through a grassroots start and with years of field experience, Jeff has a wide perspective and insight into its people and equipment. As the support centre for stations in Alberta and British Columbia, all base managers count on him for support. Jeff’s training and experience with high-pressure braided line operations allowed him to work on the world’s deepest well at the time in the Amazon jungle.

Evan Lawrance - Base Manager - Grande Prairie

Evan’s work ethic and ability to learn many roles were developed while growing up on a local dairy farm in Grande Prairie. No stranger to hard work and long hours, dairy farming is not for the faint of heart. When his family sold the dairy business, he transitioned to the oilfield. In 2000, he started in the oilfield drilling industry, where he remained for 15 years.

Looking for new opportunities and challenges, Evan started with Bonnetts Energy in 2015 as a slickline assistant, and he was promoted to a supervisor role in 2018. He then had the opportunity to move into the Base Manager position in the summer of 2022. Evan values the relationships he builds with Bonnetts’ customers and aims to maintain customer service excellence.

Bruce Syme - Base Manager - Fox Creek

Bruce’s career in the oil and gas industry started in 1985 when he got his first taste of the slickline world. He spent some time in the mining sector before working in a sawmill. He then returned to the industry as a slickline assistant in Fort St. John in 1999.

Bruce started with Bonnetts in 2000 and has moved up the ranks, becoming one of our most experienced supervisors. As the base manager in Fox Creek, he oversees one of the busiest regions in the country.

Eugene Churchill - Base Manager - Manning

Eugene started his career in the oil and gas industry in 1992. Before this, he was a journeyman carpenter working in construction. Eugene started as a shop hand in Whitecourt and worked up to Supervisor. In 1998, he moved to Manning, where he gained experience as a base manager. In 2002, Eugene started working with Bonnetts as Base Manager for Manning, where he continues to look after our customers in the North.

Darcy Johnston - Base Manager - Rocky Mountain House

Darcy grew up on a farm in the Rocky Mountain House area. He started on the service rigs in 1991. After a couple of years, he discovered that helping slickline rig in and out was what he wanted to pursue, and he started working as a slickline assistant in 1993. Darcy worked for several slickline companies over the next 16 years. He moved up the ranks and managed Whitecourt and Drayton Valley operations. In 2011, he moved to Bonnetts in Rocky Mountain House, where he was quickly promoted to Base Manager.
